An immersive luxury brand experience

Cambridge Stud is one of Australasia’s premier horse studs. Established in 1976 by Patrick and Justine Hogan, in 2017 the reins were handed over to new owners Brendan and Jo Lindsay who began redeveloping the stud from top to bottom. As part of their vision, they wanted to build a brand-new Heritage Centre that would be recognized within the industry as a world-class experience and commemoration of the proud history of the stud.
This green field project focuses on welcoming intimate groups of high-end clientele to immerse themselves in the championship legacy of Cambridge Stud and to imagine their future place among legends.

Gibson International approached the creation of the industry leading exhibition design and visitor attraction by working from the inside out. Beginning first with the narrative framework and story themes and then designing a building that supported that. The result was a modest 305SqM building housing a museum exhibition space, retail, toilets and back of house facilities.

A visitor experience celebrating glory and the greats

The Heritage Centre mixes beautiful collection items with contemporary multimedia interactive displays, tracing the founder’s rise to ‘King of Karaka’ – a global figure in the thoroughbred breeding and racing industry.

Visitors can meet the great Sir Tristam face to face and interact with the stories of many characters who worked with the legendary man himself.

A hall of champions pays tribute and uncovers the stories of human and horse greats. Heritage artefacts, trophies and racing memorabilia are displayed alongside contemporary exhibits featuring historic video footage and audio from a golden age of New Zealand racing.

The exhibition is split into five main narrative zones that use a variety of interactive display approaches and technologies to delivery on a visually rich and varied experience.
