Highlighting New Zealand business ingenuity on the world stage during the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Only four months before the opening of the country’s largest-ever sporting event, the Rugby World Cup, Gibson International was approached by New Zealand Trade & Enterprise to deliver a message to the world that our country had a thriving business environment that embraced innovation and creativity.

We produced a robust physical showcase for ‘The Cloud’, a venue and visitor attraction built specifically for the event, that highlighted 70+ companies from across the country using film, multimedia design, and a massive screen installation.

We researched and collected objects and stories of each business featured to create physical exhibits that were easily displayed or moved. This allowed the space to be transformed as needed for the massive crowds during the event.

Our multidisciplinary skills and strong network of specialists across the film, digital, design and exhibition industries were at the forefront of the multimedia and experience design. The Gibson International team installed two wide-format screens to play changing media content in real time, using a unique play out system designed in-house to handle the unusual aspect ratio demands.

We Do Things Differently Here

The Cloud Showcase ran throughout the 2011 Rugby World Cup in the uniquely designed function venue on Auckland’s waterfront. ‘The Cloud’ could entertain audiences of up to 5,000 people in the massive, flexible and modern space.

The feature piece, a film produced by Gibson International called ‘We Do Things Differently Here’, screened on a ten-minute loop celebrating 29 New Zealand businesses competing at the top of their fields internationally. Our crews captured stunning imagery and scenes of ingenuity in action across the country to create a promotional tool still used at embassies and official New Zealand events around the world.
