The land and its stories
The Ancient Lands Experience, set above the Ngilgi Cave in native bush, shares the 600-million-year story of the area and the people who have been shaped by it. This area is understood to be a geological island within an island, one that was a haven for life to thrive during the ravages of the ice age. This area is home to the Wadandi people, who have cared for this part of the world for over 60,000 years.
Gibson International worked alongside Josh Whiteland of Koomal Dreaming to develop experiences rooted to the land and its stories, and show the deep connection the Wadandi people have with the seasons and environment.
Accessibility was woven into this visitor experience from the beginning: it is step-free and inclusive of wheelchairs and prams, with the interactives designed to allow visitors to encounter the underground world.

Peering Underfoot
Here, the unseen becomes visible with digital interactive periscopes equipped with 360 video material.
The cave below visitors’ feet is visible through this interactive and animated creepy crawlies scuttle across the lens. This experience creates synergy with the above-ground experience by allowing visitors to see and understand what’s underfoot.
Knowing the Neighbours
The trail includes interactives equipped with native bird audio installations. When visitors pull on the handle attached to an icon, the song of that bird plays through small speakers. A shared experience is created when more than one birdsong is activated, blending into the existing Yallingup bush.
