Five decades of storytelling, creativity and audience connection.
Since 1977, Gibson Group and Gibson International have delivered story-rich experiences to audiences across New Zealand and around the world.
What began in educational films, television, corporate video and screen production evolved over the decades into exhibitions, tourism attractions, museums and large-scale visitor experiences. Today, the company operates exclusively under the Gibson International name, with a dedicated focus on visitor, tourism and cultural experiences internationally.
From our earliest projects through to our latest immersive environments, two things have remained at the core of the business: powerful storytelling and deep audience focus.

A legacy of creativity and innovation
Our first major visitor experience project was the Tjibaou Cultural Centre in New Caledonia in the 1990s – the beginning of a long history designing experiences that connect people to culture, place and story.
Over almost 50 years, we have delivered projects across every continent except Antarctica, establishing ourselves as one of New Zealand’s key creative exporters.
Our work has ranged from groundbreaking television productions such as The Strip, Insiders Guide to Happiness, Here To Stay, Miles From Nowhere and Mr Hugo’s Little Library, through to internationally recognised visitor experiences including:
- OurSpace for Te Papa
- Vaeggen / The Wall for the City Museum of Copenhagen
- The National Anzac Centre in Australia
- Manea: Footprints of Kupe
- The Paparoa / Pancake Rocks experience on the West Coast of New Zealand
Along the way, we have worked with hundreds of creative collaborators and helped support the early careers of people such as Richard Taylor and Taika Waititi.

As the company approaches 50 years in business, the focus remains the same as it has always been:
